The Summer 2010 edition of the e-newsletter - IFC Application Hotspot from Fluidigm Corporation is now available free to download from http://www.fluidigm.com/newsletters/2010edition1_v5/2010edition1_v5.html.

Dedicated to advances in single-cell research the Summer 2010 issue of IFC Application Hotspot includes two customer application studies, a recorded video interview with the Genome Insitute of Singapore and a new single-cell gene expression protocol.

The first application study reports on how resolution of cell fate decisions can be revealed by single-cell gene expression analysis from zygote to blastocyst. Using Dynamic Array™ Integrated Fluidic Circuits (IFCs), and the mouse preimplantation embryo as a model, scientists from Genome Institute of Singapore applied single-cell analysis to study the expression dynamics of 48 genes across mutliple developmental time points. The described work illustrates the power of single-cell expression analysis to provide insight into developmental mechanisms.

The second application study describes how using Dynamic Array™ IFCs, scientists at Keio University analyzed the expression of various cadherin genes in long-term hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and subpopulations of the HSCs isolated from the endosteum to better understand cadherin function as it relates to HSC-niche interactions.

Dr Paul Robson, of the Genome Institute of Singapore, discusses in a video interview, his latest research on single-cell expression data which is crucial for a detailed molecular understanding of mammalian development from fertilization to embryo implantation. His research has direct impact on clinical applications in the areas of regenerative medicine and assisted reproduction.
